Domain Name Registration
Back to Home

You will need to register a domain name (e.g., http://www.yourdomainname.com) for your website. There are a couple ways to do this:

  1. Register your domain name through our Domain Registration Site:
Black Marketing Inc's Domain Registration Site (site will open in a new browser).
You can quickly check for available domain names-- .COM domain names start at just $8.95 per year. A good deal, easy to use and reliable. Just register the domain name you want for a year (and set it to renew automatically each year). Don't accept other add-ons that are routinely offered, unless you know what it all means. You can just go ahead and register a domain, or if you need help please contact us. We will be happy to help you with any questions, or we can just take care of it for you on your behalf.

  2. Another option is to register your domain name yourself on your own through the domain registration service of your choice.
One of the more popular registrar companies is GoDaddy.com. They've done ads during the Super Bowl the last couple years. And in fact Black Marketing's Domain Registration Site (above) is a subsidiary of GoDaddy.com, and because we deal in bulk, you can save money through Black Marketing's Domain Registration Site. If you prefer to go directly through GoDaddy.com, you'll notice they offer many products and services related to domain names, which can be somewhat confusing. Again, don't accept other add-ons unless you know what it all means.

  3. A third option, is to have your hosting company register a domain name for you, many offer this service. However, we suggest you keep the domain name registration and hosting separate. It's a little more effort, but you have more control. Also, a hosting company may not want to register additional domain names for you unless you actually pay to host them all.

NOTE: If you are doing your own domain registration, and if it's a secondary domain name that you will want redirected to your main site, be sure to have it set up as a 301 redirect. Many domain registrar companies default to a 302 redirect. You have to specifically ask about this, or manually make the change yourself in your control panel.

A Word about Site Hosting
In order to get your site online live, it must be hosted by a hosting company. Your site will reside on the hosting company's servers.

If you have already registered a domain name and would like us to handle the hosting, you just need to contact the domain Registrar with whom you registered the domain name, and have them point the DNS to the servers where the site will be hosted.

If you host your site with us, we would provide the DNS information to you, and you would contact the domain name Registrar directly by phone or email, depending on the Registrar.

It's possible for a person to register a domain with one company, have it hosted with a totally different company, and have another party actually build the site and upload it and maintain it.

We offer our clients a one-stop website approach to keep things simple and to minimize the bureacracy. We can register the domain name, host the site, and build and upload the site.
